About Photoshop Crop Tool

CROP TOOL (C):

Earlier we have discussed about Magic Wand Tool. Now we are going to have a look at Crop Tool and what it does?

This tool allows us to crop a photo to any frame size. Crop means trim or cut the unwanted edges of a photo without any change in photo clarity.

To crop a photo follow the steps.

1.  Open an image from your hard drives. Here I took an image with two puppies.

2.  Now select Crop Tool from Tools Panel.

3.  After selecting Crop Tool, you will notice some options in options bar which are empty. Now we have to set our desired width, height and resolution values.

NOTE:  Resolution value 240 is standard value for printing images.

4.  You can also select any size from presets. They all are already set to standard sizes.

5.  Now click and hold mouse left button and drag over the image until the area of your choice. Then release your mouse button. Now you will find a brighter area which is a selected area and a darker area called “Shield” which is an unwanted area.

NOTE:  You can change “shield” color and also you can change opacity (means if you increase opacity shield color will become darker and if you decrease opacity shield color will become lighter).

6.  Now you will see a boundary box with handles (small square boxes) around the image. Now keep cursor at any handle. When cursor changes to a double pointing arrow, drag inward to decrease size or drag outward to increase the frame size.

7.  You can also rotate the image using these handles. Put your cursor near any handle, when cursor turns to a curved double pointing arrow, click and hold mouse left button and rotate the image as you need.

NOTE:  Rotating an image works well when we are working with crossed images.

8.  Now if you satisfied with your current selection, press enter or double click mouse left button in the selection box to crop the image.

NOTE:  If you feel that you gave wrong measurements in options bar, click on clear option in options bar to empty the width, height and resolution options.

Press escape to remove the selection box.
