About Photoshop Dodge Tool

DODGE TOOL (O):

Dodge tool, Burn tool and Sponge tools are collectively called as Toning Tools.

In this tutorial we are going to have a look at Dodge Tool and what it does.

This tool is used to lighten the areas. It lightens area on which we paint or drag.

1.  Open an image. To do this go to File Menu and click on open option or simply press CTRL + O and browse image from your hard drives and press ok.

2.  Then select Dodge tool from Tools Panel or simply press "O" in keyboard.

3.  After selecting Dodge Tool, you will find some options in options bar.

RANGE: It contains 3 options.

(A)  HIGHLIGHTS: If we select Highlights option, then the lightest areas will be affected i.e
lightened.

(B)  SHADOWS: If we select Shadows option, then the darkest areas will be affected i.e lightened.

(C)  MIDTONES: If we select this option, then Middle tones(i.e color between light and dark colors) will be affected i.e lightened.

(D)  EXPOSURE: Always use low Exposure value to get better result.

Here I have set 50% Exposure value and selected Range as Midtones.

4.  Now click and hold mouse left button and drag over the areas which you want to make lighten. Here I have lightened entire skin with Dodge Tool.

5.  Now look at the final result.
