SINGLE ROW MARQUEE TOOL and SINGLE COLUMN MARQUEE TOOL:
In previous tutorial we have finished with Rectangular marquee tool and Elliptical marquee tool.
Now we shall deal with Single Row Marquee Tool and Single Column Marquee Tool.
Many PHOTOSHOP users consider that these two tools have only a little importance in photoshop.
Majority of them also believe that we can only make some colorful backgrounds with these tools. But these two are more worth than they thought if we apply our skills.
MAKING TEXT OR TITLES MORE ATTRACTIVE USING THESE TOOL:
We can create some beautiful lines which will make our texts more attractive.
1. Open an image which contains some text or titles.
2. Right click on Rectangular Marquee Tool which is present at the top of the Tools panel. From Fly-out menu select either Single Row Marquee Tool or Single Column Marquee Tool. Here I started with Single row marquee tool.
3. Before creating lines you have to create a New layer by clicking on an Icon (follow the image) from Layer palette. This Layer palette is present at the bottom right. Now select New layer (by default new layer is selected). Now New layer is selected.
Now click once if you want to create only one line.
NOTE: If you want to create multiple lines, press and hold SHIFT key and make lines one by one by clicking mouse button (don’t release SHIFT button until enough lines are created). Here I am working with multiple lines.
TAKING HELP OF RULER:
While creating multiple lines you have to maintain equal distance between lines. So, here you can take the help of Ruler (scale). Press "CTRL+R", a ruler will appear. Then click one by one to create lines with uniform distance.
4. Now multiple selections have created. Then, right click on selection lines. A menu will appear. From that menu click on STROKE.
A stroke box will appear, in that box change width and color of your choice. Width value 1 or 2 is ideal.
5. Now press "CTRL+D" to deselect the selection lines. Now colorful lines will appear.
6. Select Rectangular marquee tool. Click and hold mouse left button at a point on lines and drag until the area of your choice.
7. Just right click on Rectangular selection and click on feather option.
8. A feather selection box will appear. In that box change Feather Radius to “15” and click ok.
9. Now press delete key for 3 times to cut the lines with feathering effect.
NOTE: If we give more feather radius value we will have to press delete key more times. If we give less radius value press delete key for 2 times.
*More feather radius value is preferred. Feathering effect creates edges of lines with smooth finishing.*
10. Now press "CTRL+D" to deselect the selection lines.
11. Now in Layer palette select lines layer (layer 1 in this image) by mouse click.
NOTE: in layer palette several layers are present. Each layer denotes each object or image in the main image.
12. Then, press "CTRL+J" to copy the selected layer. Now lines are copied which are hiding behind the old lines. You will not able to see second set of lines. Just press down navigation key in keyboard and adjust the second set of lines. Now the image look like below.
13. Here I want to create some vertical lines too. To do this, create another new layer from Layer palette. Then select Single column Marquee Tool and draw some vertical lines like we created horizontal lines.
Now look at the finished image which made my plain text more attractive.
